As we start to see small glimpses of Spring, we can’t wait to stow away our winter sweaters & coats. Stores are also doing the same as we start to see winter clearance sales popping up at our retail partners. We see this as the ideal time to snatch up some pieces for next season if you know what you should be looking out for. Looking at the trends from New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2014 runways is kind of looking into a crystal ball; you can catch glimpses of the trends and styles that will be in stores near you when the colder season rolls around again. An affordable strategy to staying on trend next season is to snatch up similar pieces now (we’ve got our eyes on the coats). Here are some of the runway trends that caught our eye:
Cozy Coats: Shearling coats, fur coats, and robe coats were the “it” coats of the runway. Coach featured the traditional cream shearling coat, while 3.1 Philip Lim embraced a darker tone, pairing it with color-blocked pastel look. Speaking of pastel, we also loved the 10 Crosby Derek Lam coat in a light, powder blue color and continued to see brighter colored coats like the robe coat from Altuzarra. Coats with a belt help create a feminine silhouette by cinching in the waist, so you can look chic while bundling up.

Here’s a coat (on sale!) featuring a faux, shearling lining that’s available for purchase now!
Pop of Color: Bright colors don’t have to hide in the colder months. Designers like Alexander Wang and Thakoon incorporated brighter and bolder colors of fuchsia with darker colors to create a look that really pops. We’re loving all the different shades of pink for 2014 and loving that we can wear them year round.

Wild Wild West: Collections by Coach, Cushnie et Ochs, and Tibi embodied hints of the West. Coach featured a bag with fringe accents while Cushnie et Ochs and Tibi played up the Western theme with hats. We love the contrast behind pairing a black evening dress with a casual cowboy hat to create a look that exudes a mix of classiness and adventure.

Mad for Plaid: Plaid is a typical staple for the fall & winter, but we are seeing the traditional red base checkered print being traded in for more playful and bright colors. Delpozo’s plaid coat featured a lively pairing of bright pastel pink and blue, while Thakoon’s coat also featured light pink accents.
