Are music festival attendees really there for the music? Or is it more about the fashion or parties? We can’t help but notice that more fashion bloggers made an appearance at Coachella this year, wearing paparazzi worthy outfits while making sure to snap picturesque moments for their followers. Seems like it’s no longer just about making memories, but also about documenting them via social media. Street style photography at festivals are generating a similar buzz to the photos from NYFW. Does this mean that music festivals will be the new fashion shows?
Celebrities were spotted wearing expensive, designer pieces: Alexa Chung wore a Chloé Plissé silk-chiffon midi dress and Kate Bosworth wore a Etro Embellished Jacket.
The music festival scene is gaining momentum across the US and the large festivals include: SXSW (Texas), Coachella (California), Sasquatch (Washington), Governors Ball (New York), Bonnaroo (Tennessee), Lollapalooza (Illinois), and Outside Lands (California). Internationally, the scene is also booming.
There is now an unspoken dress code when it comes to music festivals and fashion brands/retailers are definitely capitalizing on this. Many have introduced special or curated collections, including both high-street and high-end pieces. Even practical, sun-protection essentials like a hat or sunglasses are now important statement accessories.
The good news is that you’ll still be able to wear your music festival outfit afterwards as the “festival look” has itself become a trend. Fringe, most popularly spotted at music festivals, has emerged as a dominant trend for 2015.
